Help protect Schroon Lake and River waters from invasive species. When you leave a body of water:
- Remove any visible mud, plants, fish or animals before transporting equipment.
- Drain water from equipment (boat, motor, trailer, live wells) before transporting.
- Clean and dry anything that comes into contact with water (equipment, clothing, dogs, etc.)
- Never release plants, fish or animals into a body of water unless they came out of that body of water.
ESSLA, with the help of the towns of Horicon, Chestertown and Schroon, operates a boat Steward program at the Horicon launch in Adirondack. Our trained Stewards will check your boat for any signs of invasive species before you launch. If your boat doesn’t pass inspection, we are fortunate to have a new regional boat wash and decontamination station adjacent to the launch area.
Do your part to help keep Schroon waters clean and enjoyable for generations to come. Want to do more? Become an ESSLA member, donate or volunteer to help with our Scout or Educational programs. We are member funded and it’s our members that do the work to keep our pristine lake the Pearl of the Adirondacks!
