ESSLA, Inc. Membership Meeting Minutes June 24, 2011
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 by Bill, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The secretary’s report was sent out after the last general meeting, July 23, 2010, and copies were available at the meeting. There were no changes or corrections. Joan Boland made a motion to accept the minutes, Ann Durney seconded it and the motion carried. Joanne reported that we have $17,726.42 to date. Dick Lomnitzer made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report, Bob Clayton seconded it and the motion carried.
Bill introduced Emily DeBolt from the Lake George Association who presented a very interesting program about their Floating Classroom. ESSLA will be sending about 25 students aged 12-15 out on the Floating Classroom on July 29th. This should be very educational for the students.
Bill reported that as of November 5, 2010, ESSLA, Inc. achieved tax exempt status. The Schroon Lake Watershed Management Plan has been completed. In November 2010, a Steering Committee was set up and the recommendations in the plan are being tackled. In January, ESSLA received the Conservationist of the Year Award from the Warren County Soil and Water District. This was a result of ESSLA working to protect and improve the resources of Warren County. New initiatives to further protect our lake and river are: bio-testing, chemical testing through the CSLAP program, applying for grants to address septic system problems, addressing storm water run-off, and requesting professional assistance to survey our lake. Bill also noted that the 2nd Annual Horicon Day will be August 6th and ESSLA will have a booth. Food, crafts, antique cars, and fireworks will all be a part of the day.
