Minutes Executive Meeting ESSLA – Jan 28, 2010
Executive members present – Bill McGhie, Jane Smith, Jerry DiGiovanni, Joanne McGhie
Voting in absentia Vince Blando and Anne Pieper
Absent -Peter Oberdorf, Cliff Bouchard, Chrys Matterson and Steve Fahey
Guest present – Kim Frazier.
Bill welcomed Kim, who is interested in becoming a member of ESSLA board. This will give us an active voice with Schroon River and Chestertown.
Bill reported he has hooked up Peter and Rich Nawrot. They will be getting together to work on requirements and application for ESSLA to become a 501c3 corporation.
Bill reported on an email from Helen Wildman of Schroon Lake Association concerning the costs of the CSLAP water testing. We presently test 2 sights on the lake. The first sight will cost $250 and the second $1200. (The state subsidizes one sight only). SLA and ESSLA would split the total cost, so our commitment is for $725.
Proposals presented included 1) testing only one site a year and skipping year #3, 2 )ESSLA testing the south site only every third year and 3) keeping it the same, testing 2 sights a year. For now it was decided to continue as in the past years. We will revisit this subject when the full board has returned.
Joanne made a motion to join NYSFOLA again this year ($150) and to send 2 members to their conference ($575).
Seconded by Jane and passed with votes in absentia from Vince and Anne.
Jane will look into how we can run a boat launch monitoring program. Possibly hiring a person to be at the launch on certain days.
Bill reported we are waiting for Cliff to return and Frank Hill to set up a meeting with Ralph Bentley, Town of Horicon Supervisor. Among other things we would like to investigate getting markings on the river between Horicon boat launch and the Starbuckville Dam.
Web site: Jane says she will speak with Chrys about her helping with editing. We would like links to SLA and BLA put on the web site.
Jerry reported he has 2 articles to send to Harvey Leidy to be put in the Horicon Newsletter: One on the scout program and one on our ice cream social.
Jerry also said he checked with Ray Supply and they have a portable microphone and speaker that is light weight for $220.
Vince reported he has not heard back from WOL on us using their facility for our meetings. So we are looking for other meeting sights. It was suggested we look into the firehouse in Pottersville. Would really like to find a suitable place in Adirondack.
Jane has printed the labels for our mailing and will work on getting that out in February.
Jane is looking into getting membership stickers to give out to people when they join
.
Meeting adjourned 11:00 AM
Respectfully submitted
Joanne McGhie
